Why compare work patterns annually?
A change from five days to four can leave weekly paid hours unchanged while reducing commuting journeys and increasing the number of non-working days. Looking only at weekly hours misses those effects.
What the calculator measures
- estimated annual workdays and commuting journeys;
- annual paid working hours;
- annual commuting time and cost;
- total paid-work plus commuting time;
- the difference in non-working weekdays created by the pattern.
Planning limitation
This is a pattern comparison, not an employment-rights or Working Time Regulations assessment. Use contractual hours and the working weeks that reflect your situation.
